ACKNOWLEDGING COUNTRY

Maburra respectfully acknowledges the Wulgurukaba and Bindal people, whose land and sea we live and work.  As collective of many voices that contribute to healing, we acknowledge all custodians of the land on which we journey, honoring their enduring presence, resilience and wisdom.

476 First Nations women murdered since 1989. We are 8x more likely to go missing, 34x more likely to be hospitalised, and 6x more likely to die from family violence. This is a national crisis. #EndTheCrisisNow

Our New Logo Healing, Memory, Connection

Our new logo carries deep meaning, reflecting who we are, what we stand for, and the work we do together as women, families, and communities.

The colour chosen is the colour of healing - it embodies calm, restoration, and renewal. It reminds us that healing is not only possible, but central to everything we do.

The colour chosen is the colour of healing - it embodies calm, restoration, and renewal. It reminds us that healing is not only possible, but central to everything we do.

The hatches and interlinking shapes represent our women - connected to each other, to culture, to Country, and to community. Together, they form a circle of safety - a safe space for collective healing, strength, and resilience.

The hatching also reflects our songlines, which carry messages across lands and waters, connecting generations through story, memory, and belonging. Just like our songlines,

Maburra carries the message of healing far and wide, ensuring it reaches our women, our families, and our communities wherever they are.

At the heart of this design is a truth we live by: healing is central to our work. Through connection, culture, and collective action, we create safe pathways for women to rise, families to grow stronger, and communities to flourish.

Our logo is more than a symbol - it is our story, our purpose and our commitment to walk together in creating change for Our Women - Our Way...

Maburra Collective was born from a deep cultural calling to heal, strengthen, and empower our women, families, and communities.

We are committed to addressing the hidden and often silenced realities of Domestic and Family Violence and its profound intergenerational impacts, trauma that ripples across children, families, and entire communities.

Our work is grounded in cultural integrity, healing, and self-determination, creating pathways of safety, connection, and resilience. We exist to break cycles of harm, restore dignity and hope, and drive systemic change through community-led solutions designed by our women, for our women, our children, and our community.

We also recognise that healing must include our men. Without their voices, we risk excluding them from stepping into leadership and accountability for change.

Maburra Collective supports and encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in taking ownership of their roles in addressing DFV, leading with accountability, advocacy, and collective healing.

While our primary focus is on advocacy, education, and healing for women, we proudly stand alongside First Nations men who are working to change the narrative and transform the landscape of DFV, creating safer, stronger communities for everyone.

The name Maburra speaks to our vision of connection and transformation: “Maburra” meaning women, togetherness, healing, and strength, and “Collective” acknowledging the deep cultural stories and knowledge systems of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, carried down in honour of Mother Earth and Sister Moon, our songlines, kinship, memory, and Country.

Our journey began in 2021 as a small consultancy focused on culturally safe policy and program development. What started as advisory and healing work quickly grew into a not-for-profit organisation - Maburra Collective, driven by the voices and aspirations of our women.

Today, we work at the intersection of cultural healing, DFV reform, justice reform, and community transformation, leading self-determining change in our community, our way.

Through trauma-informed, culturally grounded programs, we aim to break cycles of violence, strengthen families, and create safe spaces for women, young people, and communities to heal and thrive.

Our work is guided by our Elders Advisory Council (Circle), ensuring every step reflects cultural integrity and responds to the real needs of community.

We believe change must be community-led and that healing, culture, and connection are at the heart of true transformation.

There have been countless reforms, policies, and reports highlighting the importance of healing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Yet the lived reality tells a different story: domestic and family violence continues to rise. Our women are still being killed, harmed, sexually assaulted, and traumatised. Our children continue to be taken. Our men are still being incarcerated.

This must change.

At Maburra Collective, we know that true change must be driven by community. We walk alongside our people to co-design programs, services, and supports that place healing at the centre. By addressing the impacts of trauma on women, men, children, families, and workplaces, we create pathways to resilience, safety, and empowerment.

Our approach is grounded in trauma-informed practice, person-centred care, and contextualised Indigenous frameworks.

Each program is individually designed to reflect the unique needs of community, while recognising the shared and complex challenges that connect us. We work to create visible, strength-based, and sustainable solutions that foster wellness, cultural integrity, and healing.

Informed by lived experience, we bring a reflective and authentic lens to developing, delivering, and implementing initiatives that are both culturally safe and community-led. Every action we take is purposeful, holistic, and designed to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in ways that are intrinsically aligned to culture and context.

Maburra Collective is committed to transformational change, enriching wellness, restoring connection, and ensuring healing remains at the heart of community-led solutions.

Acknowledging Trauma, Grief & Loss

Maburra acknowledges the deep and lasting impacts of trans-generational trauma on our women, men, children, families, and communities. We recognise how these unresolved wounds have contributed to the disproportionately high rates of domestic and family violence experienced within our communities.

Our Healing

Everyday I choose healing for my heart, mind, body and spirit.  I work through the darkness in my life and I am able to find stars.

I heal in my own time and I am gentle with myself everyday.

I forgive myself and take responsibility for the hurt in my past.

My heart maybe broken but I choose to fill the cracks with love and gentleness.

Creating Transformational Change

Maburra is committed to creating transformational change, enriching wellness, restoring connection, and ensuring that healing remains at the centre of all community-led solutions.

Our approach is grounded in lived experience and cultural knowledge, recognising that real and lasting change must come from the voices of our women, families, and communities. This foundation shapes the way we design and deliver our programs, services, and supports.

Through this lens, we transform lived realities into advocacy, education, awareness-raising, and policy reform, ensuring that the challenges and strengths of our communities are reflected in every decision. Our work is not only about addressing immediate needs, but also about building the conditions for generational change – creating pathways for healing, safety, justice, and empowerment that will benefit future generations.

By combining lived experience with evidence, cultural authority, and community leadership, Maburra continues to drive change that is trauma-aware, culturally safe, and healing-informed. Together, we are reshaping systems and creating sustainable solutions that truly reflect the priorities and aspirations of our communities.

Maburra respectfully acknowledges the Wulgurukaba and Bindal people, whose land and sea we live and work.  As collective of many voices that contribute to healing, we acknowledge all custodians of the land on which we journey, honoring their enduring presence, resilience and wisdom.

We pay our deepest respects to our Grandmothers, Our Mothers, Our Aunties and Our Sista’s whose strength will guide us in our collective responsibilities to heal self, our women, our young people, our families and our community.
